October 3 (Saturday) STRAWBERRY FIELDS NATURE PRESERVE: You’ll get a peek at the beautiful fringed gentian (Gentianopsis crinita) in bloom and enjoy views of the Mohawk Valley along the trails of this 118-acre Montgomery County Nature Preserve, owned by Jeff Leon, and under conservation easement with Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC). Carpoolers should meet at 9 am to make the trip to Cranes Hollow Road off Route 5, east of Amsterdam. The walk begins at 10 am and should last 1-2 hours.
October 19 (Monday) PEEBLES ISLAND STATE PARK: Come escape, explore, and experience a beautiful island where the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers meet. There are amazing views of the rivers and hiking paths along a gently rolling and wooded landscape. We will be joined by Program Coordinator, Tricia Shaw of Peebles Island State Park for a brief orientation.
October 23 (Friday) HOLT PRESERVE: Savor fall coloring in this beautiful 148-acre Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy Preserve in the Town of New Scotland. The spring-fed pond, meandering stream and wild variety of ecosystems make for a memorable experience.
October 26 (Monday) NORMANSKILL WEST & NORMANSKILL EAST PRESERVES: Normanskill West is Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy’s most visited Preserve. Hikers experience being away from everywhere, yet are only minutes from civilization. We will enjoy the streamside views of Normanskill West and then skip over to the lesser known, but also beautiful, Normanskill East Preserve.
