After careful consideration, the MHLC Board and staff have made the difficult decision to move the Great Things Are On The Horizon Fall Fundraiser to an online format.  We were so looking forward to seeing everyone in person and recognizing our honorees in a beautiful location, but with rising COVID numbers and the potential for transmission of the virus despite vaccination, it is our responsibility to consider the health and wellbeing of our supporters above all. The decision to cancel the in-person gathering was especially difficult as there was such an enthusiastic response.

Therefore, similar to last year’s event, the Great Things Are On The Horizon event will switch to a virtual format, featuring a Zoom presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a pick-up dinner option. Dinner by White Management will be available for pick up at Bountiful Bread locations in Albany and Schenectady from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Registered participants will be contacted to select a dinner option/pick-up location and will receive a link to the Zoom presentation.

Our virtual presentation will be hosted by MHLC Executive Director Mark King and Board Chair Sarah Carroll. We will feature the acclaimed artist Len Tantillo, honoree of the Great Things Are On The Horizon Fall Fundraiser. The event also features an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at a few of MHLC’s exciting projects and acquisitions.

This year’s event features the celebration of four local individuals, each of whom has had an impact on our community and the environment:

Len Tantillo, the 2021 event honoree and an acclaimed local artist recognized for his ability to capture specific moments and visualize places of the past through his paintings.

Ellie Prakken and John Smolinsky, who will receive the Dan Driscoll Leadership Award for giving outstanding time and energy to advance the mission of MHLC. John and Ellie have assisted with everything from pumpkin-moving and event set-up to trail work and support for ART on the Rail Trail.

And Dennis O’Leary, who will receive our Saving Special Places Award for his work with the Bioreserve.

Continue to watch for the opening of our online auction on September 20; a link to the auction will be posted to this page. The auction will close the day after our event, at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 1. This year, there are many unique and exciting items in the auction, including vacation packages, artwork, gift baskets, jewelry, and gift certificates from local businesses!

We are truly grateful for your continued support through these challenging times. Although we certainly did not anticipate missing this opportunity to gather, we hope that you will still enjoy a wonderful evening celebrating successes in land conservation and those who have made an impact on our community and the environment.
