Wednesday Trail Workday at Van Dyke
Wednesday, June 27, 1-4 PM
Van Dyke Preserve, Bethlehem
Learn some new carpentry skills (or share your existing expertise) as we build several new stretches of plank boardwalks through a muddy section of trail. We will also plant milkweed plugs for a monarch butterfly waystation. Meet in the parking area to haul in lumber together, MHLC will provide the rest. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves.
Footbridges, Mowing, and More at Mosher Marsh Preserve
Friday, June 29, 10 AM to 2 PM
Mosher Marsh Preserve, Amsterdam
Beaver use continues at the marsh! Help build footbridges to keep feet dry or assist with weedwacking and mowing the one mile trail loop. Dress in muck boots or bring hip waders if assisting with the footbridges, or bring a weedwacker or DR mower if you would like to help on the trails. MHLC has several weedwackers and anyone interested in lending a hand can make use of one.
Wednesday Trail Workdays at Winn
Wednesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 18, 4 PM to 7 PM
Winn Preserve, Knox
Together we can update the trailblazing on 4+ miles of trails at the Winn Preserve with durable MHLC markers. Bring your hammer, a backpack, water bottles, and MHLC will provide the rest. Be aware, we will be using spray-paint to cover the old markers before putting up the new disks. Meet at the parking area and we will divide and conquer.
Saturday Trail Morning
Saturday, August 11, 9 AM – 12 PM
Fox Preserve, Colonie
Visit MHLC’s newest preserve across from the Mohawk River. Help us maintain this 1+ mile trail loop, remove invasive species, and manage overgrowth. Bring work gloves, loppers, handsaws, and weedwackers if available. MHLC can provide tools for anyone who needs them. Be sure to dress in long pants and consider wearing bug repellant.

Attend MHLC’s signature event of the summer helping as a hike sweeper on a guided walk, taking photos to document the day, or assisting at the after-party at Indian Ladder Farms. Volunteer roles are still being finalized, but many hands will certainly be needed.
