MHLC Stewardship Volunteer Calendar


Whether you’re a long-time MHLC volunteer or new to the volunteering community, we invite you to join us at one of these upcoming stewardship volunteer opportunities!

Step 1: Be sure to fill out a volunteer application if you have not volunteered with MHLC before. 

Step 2: Review the list below and complete an online registration for each of the stewardship days that you plan to attend.

Step 3: Mark your calendar. Our Stewardship Coordinator, Kent Harlow, will be in touch with you a few days before the stewardship work day(s) to confirm your participation.

Trail Projects at Swift Preserve
Wednesday, August 28th from 3 PM to 6 PM
Swift Preserve, Bethlehem, NY

Join us as we repair our plank bridges and kiosk, install juncture signs, mark boundaries, and complete general trail maintenance. Tools, water, and granola bars will be provided. 



Trail Cutting and Construction at Holt Preserve
Saturday, September 7th from 9 AM to noon
Holt Preserve, New Scotland, NY

Join us as we mark, cut, and construct a new switchback section of trail at Holt! We will also be working to help dry muddy sections of trail with the removal of corduroying, and will construct some bog boards! We will be using various hand tools and learning about trail planning and construction! Please bring good boots or sturdy close-toed shoes and clothes you can get dirty!



Trail Benching and General Maintenance at Bennett Hill Preserve
Wednesday, September 11th from 3 – 6 PM
Bennett Hill Preserve, New Scotland, NY

Join us as we learn about bench cutting – a way to better cut trails for further sustainability, ease of use, and water mitigation. We will be bench cutting a section of the Bennett Hill trail. We will also be lopping, clearing, and conducting other general maintenance on the trails.



Stone Work, General Trail Work, and Red Trail Assessment at Bozen Kill Preserve
Monday, September 16th from 9 AM to noon

Bozen Kill Preserve, Altamont, NY

We will be continuing our work setting the rock path on the white trail. On the upper white and red trails we will complete work on water bars and water mitigation, as well as address stream flooding! Please bring clothes you can get muddy and shoes that give secure footing!



Volunteer Appreciation Party
Sunday afternoon, September 22nd  
Altamont, NY
